An Advocate focuses on the child; on their unique needs and strengths. Their purview goes beyond the academic, as they concern themselves with the child's happiness, inclusion, and functional living skills.
I offer workshops on "Packing Your Backpack: Starting the New Year Right", Preparing for PPT Meetings, Your Rights under the IDEA and how to use evaluations to meet your child's needs.
I have presented at the Connecticut Counseling Association's Annual Meeting on how school counselors can (and should) ease the special education process for families.
Why do you need an advocate?
- Does your child struggle academically or socially at school and you don't know the best way to communicate with school officials?
- Is your child eligible for section 504 accommodations and you don't know if his or her needs are being met?
- Is your child eligible for special education services and you don't know if his or her needs are being met?
- This is where Fairfield County Advocacy can help. .
